Spine Center
Our hospital is owned by the City of Dresden, it’s one of the largest public hospitals in Germany. More than 45 clinics and institutes realise a high degree of specialization and a comprehensive range of services in almost all medical disciplines. More than 3 300 employees treat 60 000 inpatients and 110 000 outpatients each year. As an academic teaching hospital of the Dresden University of Technology, the hospital offers medical students direct access to the latest scientific knowledge and methods in diagnostics and therapy.
The comprehensive spine centre of the hospital is a multidisciplinary full time spine unit with the expertise of the departments of neurosurgery, orthopaedics, trauma surgery, pain therapy, rheumatology and neurology. The interdisciplinary exchange and dialogue is a special feature of our spine centre and is self-evident to us.
The centre performs around 1000 spinal operations per year of all levels of difficulty in 2-3 ORs, with a focus on degenerative surgery 60%, traumatic surgery 20%, inflammation 10%, tumour surgery 5% and deformity surgery 5%. The spine operations take place in modern operating rooms. For the spinal operations we are using surgical microscopes, spine navigation and electrophysiological monitoring. For complex operations an interdisciplinary cooperation with vascular surgeons, thoracic surgeons and plastic surgeons is established.
Currently 5 master spine surgeons with a certificate of the German Spine Society work in the centre. The centre pays tribute to all internal quality assurance programs and participates in the spine register of the German Spine Society. Since the 08.12.2017 our comprehensive spine centre has been granted the certificate as “Level I spine centre” of the German Spine Society, following completion of the certification process.
